Elabuga is a small old town, hidden in the woods on the right bank of the Kama River. The town with the panorama of ancient stone palaces and churches is a unique example of architecture of XIX century, preserved to nowadays its unique landscapes and facades. History of Elabuga goes back to centuries. An epoch in archeology got its name due to the discovery of the Ananyinsky cemetery near Elabuga, dated VIII-V century BC.
Historical facts, legends and traditions are connecting Elabuga with famous names, such as Ivan the Terrible and Empress Catherine II. The nature of Elabuga surroundings is immortalized by famous Russian painter Ivan Shishkin, the memory of which keeps his house, now a museum. This land was the last shelter of the famous Russian poetess Marina Tsvetaeva. Every place and name in this town keeps a lot of well-known and still unread pages of history.
