Sergiev Posad is associated with the magnificent monastery complex, an important spiritual center of Russia, the Trinity-Sergius Lavra. It is the only town in the Moscow region, which is included in the route of the Golden Ring of Russia.

How to get to Sergiev Posad

If you decide to travel by train, the electric trains depart from Yaroslavsky Station approximately every half an hour; travel time is around 1.5 hours. Trains arrive to the station Sergiev Posad, which is about a 15 minute walk from the monastery.

Transport

You don't really need public transport in the heart of Sergiev Posad, as everything is within walking distance. But if you want you can use public buses, for example, between the rail way station and Lavra.

Expensive and delicious dining options are in one of the restaurants in town, decorated in Russian style - as a merchant manor. Inexpensive meal can be ordered directly in the walls of the Lavra in the local refectory. All dishes are meatless, but very tasty and authentic.

In the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius you can spend the whole day exploring the local museum collections, strolling along its imposing walls, watching frescoes and Canonicity faces, gazes with icons. In the monastery there are more than 50 buildings. But the place for all the pilgrims is, of course, Holy Trinity Cathedral, where the relics of St. Sergius of Radonezh are. Pay attention to the unique horizontal iconostasis of this church, which dates to the 15th century and includes more than 40 icons. The tallest building of Lavra is a five-tiered bell tower in baroque style with clock-chimes and the largest bell in Russia.
